How life's most painful journeys painfully score
And wrench away the arrogant sheen of youth
That appeared so beautiful, so ideal before
But now proves a diversion from simple truth

That cursed voyage condemned us each to exile blues
But finally - what luck! - has washed us up on this quieter shore
So that one day we may embark if we so choose
On a rich imperfect human odyssey, together once more
